Orient Express Art project - 2011/12

‘The current project for DRUM members is based on China and the Far East and encompasses just about anything that can be described as Oriental! As usual, members have risen to the challenge magnificently and have produced a huge variety of work within this theme, including drawings, paintings, wall-hangings, their own Terracotta Warriors and decorated lanterns. Working ‘Chinese style’ has challenged many members’ normal artistic styles and  many have learned new ways to be creative, working with their disabilities, such as creating exciting new forms of collage. The ‘Oriental’ theme has also provided different ways for members to work on joint projects and these include a multi-faceted Japanese-style screen and an enormous street-type ‘Dragon’ for wheelchair-bound members to parade!
The project has thrown up so many new ideas that we will be able to take forward into future projects, and best of all, members have been inspired to develop new talents. Their enthusiasm for the project shows in the wonderful variety of vibrant work they created and this exhibition will be a treat not to be missed!’
